About This Quote

The Bible says that God is a spirit. In other words, He is invisible. So how do you know what He looks like? The Bible tells us that God has a face. What does this mean? God’s Face When we see a person, we have a mental image of the person in our minds.

While we do not see a face with this picture, we can still recognize it as a face. When a face comes into our minds, the impression that it makes is recognizable even though we do not actually see the face. We know the face is there even though we cannot see it. The same applies to God.

We know of His existence because of the impression He makes on our minds. He is always present in our thoughts and in our imagination of Him. This impression is based upon what we read about Him and what we hear others say about Him. This impression may change or become distorted as we grow up and learn more about the way things work, but essentially it is always there and, over time, becomes clearer and more vivid. It is this impression that helps us recognize God when we encounter Him in our lives today.

Eventually, as we live longer and longer on this earth and gain experience with God Himself, the facts will become clearer and clearer to us as well as clear enough to recognize as our own personal perception of Who God really is. It is not until such time as the facts become so clear that we can no longer doubt Who He really is that we will then understand what Jesus meant when he said: “Let your light so shine before men…” (Matthew 5:16).
